Violence between the neighbouring countries has flared since explosions rocked Afghanistan recently, which Kabul attributed on Pakistan. The Afghan leadership reject allegations that it is harboring militants targeting Pakistan. Social Media and Armed Confrontations The opposing forces are not only fighting for the upper hand on the frontier, but also on digital platforms, attempting to convince the general population that their side is causing greater losses. The most recent fighting come after intense cross-border confrontations over the past few days, when the Afghan forces claimed to have killed 58 members of the Pakistani military and Pakistan reported it killed 200 "militants and linked insurgents". In a separate overnight clash on Pakistan's western border, the Islamabad's forces claimed that 25 to 30 militant and local insurgent fighters were "believed" to have been eliminated. The hostilities have prompted calls for reduced tensions from other countries including China and Moscow, as well as a suggestion from US President Donald Trump that he could intervene to broker a ceasefire.
