Exploring an Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Turdy Character on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have encountered a variety of interesting indie games. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a protagonist that is actually a dung attempting to travel to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is easy to grasp: just use a jump control. Throughout one hundred fifty stages, encounter mini-bosses and unlock a shop to purchase outfits for your dung hero.

Plan your actions carefully, as a error forces restarting the level. Bounce on air pockets to propel your character upward, traverse disappearing platforms, and touch triggers to open new areas. Earn coins and use them on tougher levels in which things gets crazy.

Visually, the experience boasts neon environments and a killer music score. The simple visual style featuring moving abstract forms may remind gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.

Although difficult to think of similar titles where you play as a piece of feces, gaming have long included scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can create explosives from protagonist excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, fecal references appears a lot in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already earned significant awards, like being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. The demo is available at present on Steam, with the final release set to debut on computers on November 19.
